Comrie is one of West Perthshire's most attractive villages, set in glorious scenery in prime position for walking in the hills. There's something to suit both serious and casual walkers and nearby Glen Artney and Glen Lednock will not disappoint, taking you right into the heart of spectacular hills. Loch Earn is nearby and Killin beyond. Everything is here of mountaineering enthusiasts to visitors who just want to enjoy the view. This pretty Perthshire village is also well known in Perthshire for its award-winning blooms.
Tuarach is a first floor apartment offering a very comfortable base in the the heart of Comrie's Drummond Street. The stair way from the street leads to the upper floor hall with kitchen, sitting room and one double bedroom to the rear of the building, and dining room, bathroom and second bedroom with twin beds to the front of the building. A cot and high chair are provided free of chage. The apartment is double glazed throughout with replaced hand made sash and case windows. The well-fitted kitchen is a good size and is supplied with the full range of crockery, cutlery and glass ware needed. The dining room is light and airy with lovely views across to the hills and the adjoining sittingroom has a small leather suite and a fireplace with coal effect fire. There is gas central heating throughout. The good sized bathroom has been completely refitted with corner bath and shower over and is nicely decorated. The two double bedrooms, one to the front of the building and one to the rear are light and comfortable with bedlinen and towels supplied. The ground floor storage cupboard could be used for bikes and there is a walk-in cupboard in the hall where outdoor gear could be stored. There is no garden with this apartment but a narrow lane to the rear of the building leads to the riverside and a pleasant walk.
Comrie is known for its Hogmanay spectacular, The Flambeaux Procession which passes immediately in front of Tuarach.
About Flambeaux. For as as far back as anyone can remember the village has been home to the Flambeaux Procession at Hogmanay, a fiery spectacular accompanied by music, fancy dress parades and general all round merry-making. At midnight eight flambeaux or fiery torches begin the procession around the village before being ceremoniously thrown in the River Earn. Although no-one is absolutely sure how or when the festival began and lots of different myths abound, the most widely accepted theory is that it is pagan in origin. As the last minutes of the old year pass, villagers and visitors gather in the square until at midnight the flambeaux are lit and the procession, led by members of the local pipe band, begins. After working its way around the village the procession returns to the square where the flambeaux, often more than six feet high, are put down while the adults' fancy dress parade is held. Once the judging is complete the flambeaux are then picked up again and carried across the square to Dalginross Bridge where they are thrown into the river.
Besides the many walks in the area, there are excellent and popular small Golf Courses, gardens such as the Italian Garden at Drummond Castle to visit, the Auchingarroch Wildlife Park and visitor attractions at nearby Crieff. Oban and Glencoe to the West are good days out and Perth, Dunkeld and Pitlochry are all easily reached. Even the scenic drive to your choice of day out will not fail to please.
