Perth is a popular county town set on the banks of the River Tay and known affectionately for being the “town between two inches”, being its two lovely riverside parks, the North Inch and the South Inch. Dominated by St John’s Kirk , where John Knox gave his famous sermon in 1559 it is a very pleasant shopping town with good restaurants, an excellent Museum and Art Gallery , with its collection of Monart and Vasart glass associated with Perth, silver and other excellent displays. The J D Fergusson Gallery is housed in a former waterworks. Greyfriars Churchyard , home of one of the earliest gravestones in Scotland.The Horsecross Concert Hall provides a complete range of concerts from classical to popular.Perth Festival of the Arts at the end of May offers a very high quality experience well worth booking ahead. Perth boasts its own theatre, with a traditional family Pantomime and plays throughout the year. The Black Watch Museum, St Ninian’s Cathedral, Kinnoull Hill walks, and Scone Palace , early crowning place of the Kings of Scotland ensure that Perth merits much more than a passing visit, you will want to return again and again.

In Crieff are delightful apartments, rated 5-stars in a restored Victorian mansion called The Strathearn (4), a magnificent first floor apartment, where you can even book a professional chef to cook for you, as you can at The Penthouse at St Ninians (6) a superb apartment in the converted St Ninian’s Church. This apartment and the St Ninian’s Tower (8) apartment enjoy magnificent views over Crieff. Aberturret Cottage (5) is on the outskirts of the popular tourist town of Crieff as is the newly opened retreat for two at The Loft (2). There are a series of delightful walks from the cottage doorstep and the area is also excellent for cycling, particularly mountain biking. Crieff is just one mile away and has extensive shops, restaurants, a leisure pool and tennis courts. There are two 18-hole golf courses (one a short walk away from the cottage). Glenturret , Scotland’s oldest malt whisky distillery just a couple of minutes’ walk from the cottage.

Beyond Crieff, going only a few miles West to the very attractive village of Comrie and walks to Glen Artney and Glen Lednock.Comrie is a walker’s paradise and there is also a popular golf course. Stay at Ballacraine (6/8) in the heart of this very attractive village with very good restaurants. Loch Earn, Loch Tay, Crianlarich, Loch Lomond,Oban and Fort William lie beyond.

Over at Aberfoyle on the edge of the Loch Lomond National Park overlooking Ben Ledi is Benview Lodges (6).

To the south of Crieff lies the pretty village of Muthill (ask a local how to pronounce this name). Right next to the 9-hole golf course is the aptly named Wee House a very popular cottage for two persons with a very good restaurant within walking distance.

The “Lang Toon” of Auchterarder is the oldest Burgh in Scotland and is famed for its very long main street, its proximity to The Gleneagles Hotel and Golf Courses, its excellent high class shops with everything from cashmeres to antiques and good cafes. The Armoury (sleeps 8). At the nearby Gleneagles Village is the Guthrie Court apartment (5/6).

Towards the Braco Moor, with Dunblane beyond, is the newly built Cambushinnie Croft (6) a spacious and beautifully designed house with views to Sheriffmuir and the Ochils.

A few miles West of Perth and on the south side of the A9 route, lie Chapel House (4) and Tower House (2) both part the former private chapel of Duncrub Park set in 180 acres of beautiful parkland, a 10-minute stroll from the conservation village of Dunning. The Doocot (2) is situated on the edge of Duncrub Park, an easy walk from Dunning and the Coach House (4/6) is three miles away at nearby Forteviot, a picturesque tiny village with an ancient history.

Close to Bridge of Earn and just on the edge of Forgandenny lies two adjacent properties in converted farm buildings. The Stables (4) and The Granary (6/7) are convenient for Strathallan School, Kilgraston School, Perth and the M80 access to Edinburgh.

Heading north of Perth,  and just outside the town near a hamlet called Moneydie , is the charming Wayside Cottage (5) situated on the Sustrans cycle route 77. 

Off the A9 turn towards Grandtully and the famous white water rapids and stay at Balnabein (6).  There's a wonderful Chocolate Shop with restaurant there too called Legends. Head towards Aberfeldy to find Mo Dachaidh, near Keltneyburn

At Kenmore on the edge of Loch Tay, a spectacular spot, find The Orphanage (10) on the edge of the Loch,  and Riverview Cottage (6) on the Tay looking at of Toymouth Castle Golf Course. On the north side of Loch Tay overlooking the Loch near Fearnan Village is Maple Cottage (4).  Also near Fearnan, in a prime location with a private beach and fishing rights is the luxury  Shoreside group of Mews type houses.  The Quaich (6), Bein Ghlas (4) accepts dogs, Ben Lawers (4), Ben Macdui (4), Tarmachan (4), Tigh an Loan (4) and Shiehallion (4)

Dall Mill , Abade’s most northerly holiday home, is set in 5 acres of grounds on the south shore of Loch Rannoch, Scotland’s highest Loch around 30 miles west of Pitlochry. Sleeping 10, it is an ideal for activity holidays with walking, mountain biking, and sailing on the doorstep, and golf within 40 minutes drive. Boats and bikes may be hired locally and some lessons are available. Kinloch Rannoch has one shop and two hotels. Local guesthouses serve good food to non-residents. Take the train from Rannoch Station across the moor to Fort William and Mallaig on the West Coast beyond.Visit Castle Menzies and the delightful towns of Pitlochry and Aberfeldy and the famous House of Bruar , near Blair Atholl, has high class shopping and food. Loch Tay has a re-construction of a Crannog (ancient loch dwelling) and excellent golf courses at Kenmore .
